 Acceptance Criteria SCHS requires applicants meet the following criteria for acceptance:
- Baccalaureate degree in nursing or a licensed Registered Nurse with a baccalaureate degree from an accredited school in the U.S. or territories in any related field of science
- Current licensure as a professional Registered Nurse in the United States or its territories. License must be current in the state in which the student will do his/her clinical internship
- One year of clinical experience in an area of critical care, which can include intensive care, cardiac intensive care, or newborn care, but must include invasive hemodynamic monitoring and interpretation
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) provider status certification
- A cumulative GPA of 3.0 in all post-secondary work (special consideration will be made for slightly lower GPA if cumulative science GPA is 3.0+)
- A Graduate Record Exam within the last two years (SCHS's school code is 5957)
- Five references - (forms provided)
- Official transcripts of all collegiate and graduate work
- Background check
- Personal interview and essay summation of applicant's service experience
Transfer Students & Credits Students applying to the Sumner College of Health Sciences Master of Science in Nurse Anesthesia who have credits in another Master of Science in Nursing Program will be evaluated on an individual basis. The student must meet all SCHS admission criteria. The student must be in good standing with the previous institution and there must be a letter indicating the reason for the request of transfer. An official school transcript must be submitted. No more that 6 semester credits will be accepted for transfer. The Dean / Program Director will review and advise the acceptability of the course and number of credits for transfer. Transfer credit will not be accepted for courses in which a grade lower than a B (3.0), or its equivalent, has been received. No credit will be granted toward work completed in extension courses, correspondence courses or courses taken at an unaccredited institution.
Enrollment Limitations Enrollment is based on the ability of Sumner College of Health Sciences, Anesthesia Program to meet the personal and professional needs of each student accepted into the program. The limitations to enrollment include: 1. Clinical facilities available to students 2. Sumner College of Health Sciences faculty and staff 3. Quality of service (to be determined by evaluation system and SCHS officials) 4. Accreditation limitations 5. Anesthesia profession (supply and demand)
