The Mission

Our mission is to increase minority leaders in the specialty of nurse anesthesia and to expand Sumner College of Health Sciences’ capacity to offer information, research, and training as a means to upward mobility in this discipline. We seek to grow in awareness of our communities in anticipation that Sumner College of Health Sciences, through consciousness and attentiveness, will become a catalyst that sparks action and much needed change.

Goals

The goals of Sumner College of Health Sciences are to:

  • Facilitate potential CRNA student conferences with a emphasis on minorities.
  • Sponsor leadership-training workshops for minority CRNA students.
  • Sponsor visiting scholars lecture series.
  • Advocate and encourage recruitment trips to hospitals, four-year colleges, community hospitals and colleges.
  • Attend regional recruitment events that target minority students.
  • Widen leadership development programs for minorities and disadvantaged CRNA students.
  • Cultivate individual, personal and professional advising for minority CRNA students.
  • Provide travel funds for diverse faculty to pursue professional development activities such as conferences and training programs.
  • Actively solicit and make extra efforts to seek out qualified women and minority candidates for faculty appointments.
