The mission of Sumner College of Health Sciences is to prepare values-based, certified registered nurse anesthetists who demonstrate the scientific knowledge, technical skills competencies, and professional socialization necessary for full participation in the specialty of anesthesia, for leadership in the discipline, and for service in a globalized world.
|

The faculty of Sumner College of Health Sciences believes that scholarly exchange within a graduate framework should not only critically appraise nurse anesthesia concepts and theories; but should also emphasize advanced analytical-thinking, problem-solving, and research skills that develop and test knowledge in this discipline. Curriculum development and refinement are guided by current knowledge, the changing role of the CRNA in the American healthcare system, the needs of the diverse communities of interest served, and collaboration of faculty and students in the ongoing discovery of knowledge.
With a focus on preparing graduates for the full scope of nurse anesthesia practice in a competitive marketplace, learning experiences and opportunities are planned in manageable segments that integrate and provide continuity in the process of attaining the knowledge and developing the skills and attitudes consistent with the educational objectives of the program and the individual needs of students. Faculty guide student acquisition of knowledge and the technical skills necessary for advanced practice; while students participate actively in the learning processes that advance their long-term goals and prepare them to realize their full potential as productive members of the healthcare community, with a lifelong commitment to learning.
