SCHS is a 24-month graduate program that awards the Master of Science in Nurse Anesthesia. The program is delivered in the following three formats:
DIDACTIC: The 21 didactic courses, which earn students 31.5 semester credits, are delivered via an electronic format, utilizing the SCHS unique educational model designed for the different ways people learn. Courses are taught in pods - three to five courses taught concurrently - so that approximately 16 lessons per course correlate with what is being taught in other courses within the same pod. (See School Catalog, page 24 for lesson design.)
ON-SITE DIDACTIC SEMINARS: The 5 full-week on-site seminars are interspersed between pods. The seminars earn students 15.5 semester credits, for working on human patient simulation, instruction by anesthesia instructors, course review from previous pods, presentation of student research topics, and preparation for the National Certification Examination. At these seminars students and faculty have the opportunity of working together to create friendships, mentoring relationships, and study teams.
Note: At the first seminar students are introduced to the program, professors, support personnel, and the technology. Students learn how to access all online student functions, and actually complete three online lessons in Biochemistry!
CLINICAL INTERNSHIP: The 24-month integrated Clinical Internship, which earns students 37 semester credits, begins on the first day of classes. The Clinical Internship is arranged in the student's own community. The SCHS-approved clinical sites appoint a Clinical Site Director who supervises the student instruction and case load required by the Council on Accreditation for the AANA.
