Griggs University, Sumner College of Health Sciences is developing their first health science degree in nurse anesthesia. It is our intent to continue pursuing accreditation with the Council on Accreditation (COA). This professional accreditation body represents the anesthesia profession and assures the public that all accredited anesthesia schools meet the minimum requirements established for a qualified anesthesia education.
Ken Crawford, CRNA, MS, Program Director and Dean of Anesthesia, along with Dawn-Marie Buhain, CRNA, MS, and Martha Richter, CRNA, MS, have extensive experience in nurse anesthesia and bring their proven leadership to the development of this program. There are over thirty-five professors working with the Dean and Assistant Deans in the development of curriculum, courses, and interactive materials for a dynamic educational experience.
We invite you to follow our progress as we work with the COA to open a new school program in California. We will encourage your input as we work to design a program acceptable to the COA and one that meets an adult learners needs. We will occasionally post questions and ideas on this website for your critique. We want to hear fresh ideas and concepts that will make this a student driven program. Our desire is to complement the quality academic and clinical programs offered by over 100 anesthesia schools and assist more qualified applicants realize their dream of becoming a nurse anesthetist.
We remain committed to rural and inner-city hospitals and nurses that desire to remain in their communities upon graduation. We will seek to provide support to those hospitals by establishing articulations with the school for them to provide clinical training for their nurses who desire an anesthesia degree. Although students must commit to one year attendance in Redlands, California the school will make every effort to facilitate the second year clinical training in the student's home community.
Current News and Updates will be posted monthly on the News and Events page (May 13, 2009).
